Ahimsa Sanctuary – Fully vegan cafe in Singapore serving good plant-based grub

The word ‘Ahimsa’ in Hindi means non-violence and makes for an apt name for a cafe trying to convey the message of its plant-based food offerings. Ahimsa Sanctuary is a fully vegan cafe situated in Neil Road in Singapore.

As you enter this spacious shophouse, you’ll notice that the cafe has both indoor and outdoor dining options. The vibe of the cafe is instantly serene and calming with some plants and natural light streaming in gently. The swing (‘Jhoola’ in Hindi) which forms the part of this outdoor seating, in the courtyard is hard-to-miss. I felt transported to one of the more relaxing cafes in Ubud.

The second floor of the cafe is mainly reserved for yoga sessions as they offer classes too for those looking for a good meal after a fitness session.

The menu of Ahimsa Sanctuary has substantial variety in the form of bagels, burritos, grain bowls, sourdoughs, salads, smoothie bowls, caffeinated drinks and juices.

Nourish burrito bowl at Ahimsa Sanctuary in Singapore
Nourish bae-rrito bowl at $11.90

When I am looking for something classic and delicious, I usually go for burrito bowls. This bowl was made up of lemon herbed quinoa, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, spicy smoked corn, jalapenos and tortilla chips. The protein component of the bowl was from the lion’s mane mushroom pops. The bowl was delicious and constituted a wholesome meal option.

The Brekkie on the go burrito turned out to be a very good meal pick-me-up! Made with scrambled tofu, sliced avocado, lettuce, kale, pickled onions, potatoes, tomato and spicy tangy aioli, this wrap was bursting with flavour and packed enough punch to keep me fueled through the day. If you are looking for a vegetarian burrito in Singapore, do not miss this one! Special mention to how tightly the burrito was wrapped that there was no sloppy eating.

Spicy smoked corn at Ahimsa Sanctuary in Singapore
Spicy smoked corn at $6

As someone with a penchant of flavours that pack a punch, the spicy smoked corn dish had a balance in its heat and sweetness. It turned out to be a side dish that allows you not to feel the essence of the wait time when you are hungry.

Strawberry Lemonade at Ahimsa Sanctuary in Singapore
Strawberry Lemonade at $6.50

The cold-pressed lemonade was refreshing with strawberry chia compote. Well-equipped to beat the heat!

Their bagels and wellness juices are also popular, maybe that’s for another time! The wait times could be lowered but the service staff was apologetic and that was nice. Hoping they are able to sort it out soon.

Ahimsa Sanctuary definitely makes a worthy effort to showcase tasty vegan food with flavour in Singapore. if you are looking to have a relaxed conversation along with some good food, then Ahimsa Sanctuary is worth visiting!
