Fi Woodfire Thai – Modern Thai Restaurant in Robertson Quay

Fi Woodfire Thai is one of the newer restaurants along the Robertson Quay stretch on Unity Street. As the name suggests, their concept focuses on adding a grilled and smokey effect to their Thai dishes. They also mix up some interesting cocktails to pair with the food. The ambiance is aesthetically done and lends itself to be a space for a catchup with friends.

The menu has limited vegetarian options, and these dishes are not from the charcoal grill. Hence the smokey effect would not be pronounced in the vegetarian dishes. The menu is also different from other traditional Thai menus that we are used to, and hence not contain the standard curries and the spring rolls.

The Tofu Pomelo salad was bursting with flavour. It is made with an assortment of ingredients including crispy tofu, fragrant pomelo infused with pineapple juice, pomegranate, cherry tomato, crushed peanut, and roasted shredded coconut. The sweet and sour dressing complemented the ingredients perfectly, and made it to be a thoroughly enjoyable salad – highly recommended.

There are many versions of the classic Tom Yum soup. Even though I am not a fan of mushrooms, this soup was light and hit the right notes. This broth consists of shimeji and oyster mushrooms, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice and coriander. It pairs perfectly with rice and the spice levels were very manageable.

Most of the vegetarian dishes at Fi Woodfire Thai consist of mushrooms. The price to quantity ratio could also seem skewed for some dishes if you compare it to other Thai restaurants. Overall if you are interested to try a different Thai culinary experience, then Fi Woodfire Thai is worth visiting if you are in the area. The seating space is limited, so advance reservation is recommended during peak times.
