La Veranda – Garden Inspired Brunch Café in Tanglin Mall

La Veranda is a garden inspired brunch café nestled within House of AnLi, a furniture store in Tanglin Mall. The café is spacious and has a sun drenched setting in hues of green and gold. The ambiance is of a cozy, relaxed all-day dining space with tons of style. The menu consists of European food options ranging from breakfast classics like waffles, salads, sandwiches to burgers to a variety of beverages, and artisanal desserts. The menu is vegetarian-friendly with a considerable number of options.

We ordered the Trio Mozzarella Balls on Toasted Ciabatta which instantly reminded me of a Caprese salad. This open-faced sandwich served with fresh mozzarella, vine-ripe tomatoes, and drizzled with lemon oil made for a lovely dish. The edible flowers went with their garden-themed vibe and elevated the presentation of the dish by a couple of notches.

Burgers make for a wholesome brunch option. The Vegan Portobello Burger was made in a Mediterranean-Japanese style as the Portobello was layered between a charcoal bun, and seasoned with nori, hummus, and a tomato chutney. Textural contrast was added by the Japanese greens. This take of European food with an Asia twist was refreshingly different compared to the other standard offerings of burgers with mushrooms.

In Singapore weather, one never tires of refreshing drinks. The Mixed Apple and Orange juice was a thirst quencher with its sweet and tangy notes.

When the slightly salted flavor of Biscoff in the form of speculoos mixes with the sweet strawberry flavour, it’s as instant hit combination. The scoops retained their form for a significant time and did not instantly melt which made it nice to savour the ice creams.

Overall, the prices are higher than average. For its exquisite and tastefully-done interiors, for a brunch hangout on special occasions and for its ample options for vegetarians, La Veranda is worth a visit.
