Siam Kitchen

Bugis is one of those areas in Singapore where there is no dearth of shops and restaurants. My stroll into one of the malls led me to chance upon this restaurant. Time constraints didn’t let me pay them a visit that day – but it went on my list of places to try out. It didn’t take too long since Thai food is one of our favourite cuisines and we ended up at Siam Kitchen . Since it was the beginning of a weekend, we decided to make reservations. However, in spite of that fact, we were seated around 20 minutes later than our booking time. The restaurant is well-lit and has space for large groups. Bear in mind that there are some huge pillars in the seating area. If you get a table behind them, then you pretty much have to keep peeping out and calling for the servers. They were slow during service which did not go down that well with me as I expect efficient customer service.

The Orders

They have set dinner meals on weekdays at a flat rate of $18.90++ which is inclusive of one main course, a side dish and a drink. I decided to try that and ordered the ‘Ice Lemongrass Tea’ which was quite OK. I had asked for less ice and that request was fulfilled. The next order was the ‘Crispy Spring Rolls’ which were quite nice in taste. We were so hungry that they disappeared from the plate in seconds.

I will never get bored of ‘Veg Green Curry with Rice’ and that was my main course order. The vegetables weren’t overcooked and the curry itself was well seasoned. Even though vegetarian green curry option was not a part of their set menu, they were nice enough to take my customization request into account.

Further on, we decided to try some other items and ordered the ‘Clear Tom Yum Soup’ which was a light and tasty soup. The snow peas were crunchy and there was a nice balance in the soup.

Finally, we ordered the ‘Clear Tom Yum Hor Fun’ which was a tangy and spicy broth mixture filled with crunchy veggies. The flavours in the broth blended nicely and the serving portion was quite substantial.

The restaurant also has some lunch menu combos on display. On the whole, they really need to gear up on the service front and manage their orders well. If you are in the area and are looking to grab a quick Thai meal at a decent price, then this restaurant fits the bill.
