The Pizza Collective – Bugis Plus [Permanently Closed]

Nowadays, food and technology have started to integrate in the dining scene. You can place orders using an iPad and self-payments can be done via kiosks. I happened to visit one such place called The Pizza Collective situated conveniently in Bugis Plus. Though they have a limited selection of pizzas on the menu, they offer customization of your pizzas with unlimited toppings at the same price. That is quite a steal and this ordering model is also very conducive for takeaways. They also have a limited seating space where you can enjoy your pizza with a drink. What is also worth a mention is their flowchart handout of the ordering process which helps customers who are new to the kiosk ordering method.

The Orders
This place focuses on piping hot pizzas using fresh ingredients. The customization model helps in you building your own vegetarian pizza. Right from the dough, to the type of crust, toppings, and drizzles have variety. The pizza turned out to be very good and I went for onions, cherry tomatoes, red bell peppers and zucchini as the toppings. A 10.5″ inch pizza priced at $12 is worth it. They also have dessert pizzas as options which I plan to try next time. You can also pair your pizza with a soft drink.

For its central location, for its wallet-friendly good pizzas and for quick takeaways, the Pizza Collective is a totally recommended option.

GreenDot – Bedok Outlet

Its always fun when an impromptu outing leads to an unplanned dining out situation. We ended up going to see the newly renovated Bedok Mall which is huge and filled with interesting shops. Basement 1 and 2 are filled with eateries and I chanced upon this interesting name called Greendot in the mall directory. So I headed off to explore the place and landed at this vegetarian eatery. It is a small place with around 12 seats. Currently, they offer a nice combination of set meals priced at $5. This place is also suited for takeaways if you are looking for something on-the-go. As we placed out orders, I noticed that there were some clear labels like ‘No MSG’ and certification by National Environment Agency displayed on the wall.

The Orders
They have a simple menu with limited dishes in the offering. I ordered the ‘Sesame Rice in a Cup’ which had brocolli, tomato, cucumber, beancurd and some soya nuggets placed on the top with the rice at the bottom. These sides went nicely with the rice and I liked the taste of the rice itself. Since I had gone for dinner, I wished that the quantity served would have been a bit more. The iced tea came as good add-on to the dish.

If you like noodles in a nicely flavoured gravy, then ‘Vegetarian Laksa’ is for you. The broth was good with the gravy-absorbed tofu and mushrooms floating on the brim. The only small complaint that I had was they assumed that everyone eats eggs by default. I wish they had asked if we wanted the dish eggless or with eggs.

They have three types of interesting burgers that I plan to try next time. The service was quite friendly and they were pepped during service. I am sure they can also come out with some interesting vegan options. When I read about the history of the setting up of this place, the founders wanted to break the monotony in the vegetarian food offered in school canteens and they went ahead in making interesting, meat-free offerings. They have the potential to grow and for that we should be willing to give them a chance.
